A Honda Diesel Engine Capable of 70 mpg Coming for the 2016 Model Year

This will be a new addition to the Earth Dreams engine lineup and an evolution of current Honda diesel engines available in Europe.

While there are no diesel-powered Honda models currently available in the United States, the automaker is no stranger to the technology. Honda offers 1.6L and 2.2L four-cylinder turbodiesel engines right now in European versions of the 2014 Honda Accord and the Honda CR-V. They also sell a diesel-powered car in India called the Honda City that’s similar to the Fit available at Bosak Honda. These models average 26 kmpl, which is the equivalent of a little over 60 mpg.

Compared to Europe, the United States has increased emissions regulations in order to protect the environment. This generally means new or highly adjusted diesels are necessary to meet these EPA restrictions. Honda says they will do just that by using a three-stage catalytic converter. The engine could be available starting in 2015 in vehicles like the 2016 Honda CR-V and the 2016 Honda Accord.
