Prelude2Cinema Casts 'Life Aquatic' Actress Robyn Cohen in "Que, Sera, Sera"

Cohen stars as Chief Lena Turner in the first episode of sci-if/crime noir series Out of Darkness: Cleveland

CLEVELAND - Sept. 9, 2016 - PRLog -- Actress Robyn Cohen, known for starring opposite Bill Murray in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and opposite Adam Carolla in Road Hard, will be portraying the hard-as-nails Police Chief Lena Turner in Emmy-winning writer Alex P. Michaels' first SAG Production, "Que, Sera, Sera," the first installment in near-future crime noir series OUT OF DARKNESS: CLEVELAND.

"Central to the film's story is a police shooting by her character, and I know that Cohen will bring a lot to the part of Chief Turner," says Michaels. "I'll be reprising my role from the original series, and we will have a few scenes together. Both of our characters are members of the law, but we have our own rules about how things should be done. People will be surprised at some elements within this story. It shows that there really are no easy answers when it comes to solving the problems in our own society."

In the movie, Michaels has envisioned a dark, possible near-future in which the police have been overtaken by a militarized federal task force under President Joseph Franks, a reality-star-turned-politician who seized ultimate control of the country soon after taking office. A senator named Nicholas J. Ferris, who operates a safe house for women and girls who have been rescued from a sex slavery ring entrenched in the city's criminal underground, reluctantly agrees to run for office at the behest of his friends and constituents.  Meanwhile, a mysterious vigilante takes down the men in charge of the prostitution ring.

Chief Lena Turner is determined to uncover the dirt on the Senator before his campaign gains traction, but she has her own demons to deal with as well. Her choices become one of the forces driving the film.

"How might we take on rooting out political corruption? How do we change peoples' minds to create better legislation? Powerful storytelling in Film, TV, and Theater posits one possible answer. For a long time I've believed that Art and Entertainment have the potential to elevate consciousness and shift hearts and actions for the betterment of humanity," Cohen says. "Alex P. Michaels takes on such a mission with Out of Darkness: Cleveland. As Chief Turner, I'll be excited to be part of such relevant storytelling, and in this particular character, to transcend human fallibility to make way for the higher good."

Promotion for the film includes a website for the fictional Senator Ferris (makeferrisrun.com ) and a corresponding Twitter account (@makeferrisrun) in which the character and his campaign team will promote his run for the Presidency in 2020. The Ferris Campaign will discuss real-world issues while providing an inside look at the alternate universe developed for the film series. An Indiegogo campaign "Election 2020 — Bringing Jobs to Cleveland, Ohio" will help to crowdsource funding to cover some of the production costs. It is slated to begin production in November 2016.

The real Cleveland will serve as the backdrop for the movie. "Que, Sera, Sera" is the title of the first 90-minute movie series de la Oscuridad and refers to the phrase "What will be, will be..." in Spanish. It also connects to Michaels' first series "Out of Darkness." The movie will add an estimated $250,000 to the Cleveland economy with the addition of over 250 jobs throughout the 20-30 days slated for filming and includes production estimates of $10,000/day for local crew and talent.

Cohen has made appearances in popular TV shows, including Cristela, N.C.I.S., The Mentalist, The Closer, Angel, The Strand and more. In addition to her film roles in The Life Aquatic and Road Hard, Cohen has had parts in James Franco's films Good Time Max, Fool's Gold, Bukowski and The Institute. She teaches acting courses at James Franco's Acting and Film School Studio4 in Los Angeles and performs on stage at several theatre venues, including the Great Lakes Theater production of "Dial 'M' For Murder."

"I believe that great actors bring something to the table," says Michaels. "Robyn is a perfect fit for the role of Chief Turner, and we're excited to have her aboard this project."
