Follow on Google News | ![]() Teen Contributors Reach Across Borders to Explore Citizenship in KidSpirit's Fall IssueBy: KidSpirit Each issue of KidSpirit revolves around a Big Question posed by the all-youth Editorial Board. This season, the editors ask, "What Does It Mean to Be a Citizen of the World?" In her response, a young editor draws on her experience studying abroad to look beyond lines drawn on a map. Other pieces released today include an article on elements of an effective justice system, a contributor's personal essay on coming to terms with her Singaporean identity, another writer's reflection on learning to empathize with her fellow citizens, a piece about our civic duty to tackle the global climate crisis, and a review of the novel The Night Diary. Throughout the season, KidSpirit will continue to publish writing, poetry, artwork, and video by youth on this rich theme. In Features, writers will examine the process of becoming an American citizen and how social systems intended to help us can actually impede us. Awesome Moments pieces will delve into transformative experiences, while the Interfaith Connections department will feature perspectives of teens from different faith and wisdom traditions. The Helping Hands section will explore the life-changing significance of service, and, in Media, young authors will review more books and movies related to the issue's theme. Each issue of KidSpirit features additional wisdom from one adult with expertise in the theme in a column called PerSpectives. We are delighted that this issue's column will be written by Dr. Martyn Barrett, professor, author, and renowned expert on youth civic engagement. KidSpirit is a unique forum for young people of all backgrounds and traditions to explore life's big questions in an open spirit.
