BASINGSTOKE, U.K. - July 14, 2023 - PRLog -- After 17 years of restoration, Alexandria's Graeco-Roman museum, is due to re-open at the end of June.

First built in 1892 in a five-room apartment, inside one small building on Rosetta Street, the museum's collection is the product of donations from wealthy Alexandrians as well as of excavations led by successive directors of the institution, both within the town and in its environs.

Closed for renovations in 2005, the museum consists of 27 halls and an attractive garden, which offer an excellent introduction to Egypt's Graeco-Roman period.

White marble statues of Aphrodite (Greek goddess of love and beauty), Eros (god of love) and Serapis, (Graeco-Egyptian sun deity) are among the thousands of artefacts waiting to be discovered.

The re-opening of the museum will also provide the first opportunity to see the extraordinary array of sunken exhibits, which have been recovered in recent years by marine archaeologists from Alexandria's harbour.

The perfect way in which to visit, is on independent tour operator Corinthian Travel's 11-day Alexandria and Nile Cruise (https://www.corinthiantravel.co.uk/destination/egypt-holi...) holiday, which combines Alexandria with the magnificent Egyptian pharaonic treasures lying between Cairo and Aswan, to deliver a more complete picture of ancient Egyptian civilisation.

This private tour also features a three-night Nile cruise aboard the MS Farah so you can enjoy the timeless beauty of Upper Egypt, whilst sailing down the world's longest river.

The luxurious vessel stands out from the crowd with its contemporary interiors, high standard of hospitality, and light, elegantly appointed cabins.  The 60 air-conditioned cabins and two suites are all equipped with LCD Televisions, mini-bar, bathroom with bath, and have panoramic windows to soak up the views.
