Follow on Google News | A 21-Year-Old Science Entrepreneur Wants To Bring His Internet Device To MarketBy: Fibrelink But it was the Photon Detector - a low-cost sensor that harnesses photonics technology to make high-speed internet more accessible and affordable - that won him a prize at the Geneva Innovation Award. One milestone that Nouraee had long dreamed of was finally realized – receiving his first patent for a light detection sensor in July. Nouraee has patented his photon detector sensor, and is talking with companies about developing it into a simple, over-the-counter device, which could eventually provide high-speed internet for all areas Nouraee aims to release the sensor next year and plans to employ a group of engineers to facilitate the scaling of the technology and make it available at an affordable price. He said he hoped he could inspire others to dream up ideas to "solve the world's problems". The tension is mounting for some of the world's most inventive young minds as this year's Geneva-based Global Innovation Award reaches its climax. Judges recently chose their international shortlist of 30 inventions – 10 of which will go forward to this year's final and the chance to scoop the $10000 first prize. Nouraee and the other finalists will be honoured in a TV special. The competition, which is open to students and recent graduates in participating (currently 27) countries, has attracted over 400 entries this year, says the Geneva-based Exhibition. About Erfan Nouraee Iranian young inventor Erfan Nouraee is best known for creating a fiber-optic communication sensor that can make high-speed internet more accessible and affordable and recently launched a new mental health awareness service called "iMind" which uses artificial intelligence to help youth tackle mental health challenges.
