Follow on Google News | Canada's Star Young Scientist Is Catalyzing Generational ChangeBy: Fiberlink Still only a junior at York University, the brainy student developed the science in 2016, formed a company around the product, then called Fiberlink, in 2012 as a bid to enter a business competition. "I went on the internet and I found that a third of the world's population is still without access to high-speed internet. It was then that I knew I had to do something." Nouraee said. He added: "The device uses an advanced noise reduction algorithm and light processing sensor to cancel noises from the fiber-optic information channel. It can then send the results to a processor." Having performed tests, Nouraee says he is constantly amazed by how effective the sensor is. As a tech-obsessed teenager, he assumed something so essential to the industry should be designed and he engineered a device now called Photon Detector System that has earned him a spot as one of the IFIA's International Invention and Innovation Competition medal recipients, beating out hundreds of other students from more than 30 countries. What was first developed for a school science fair quickly took off thanks to its innovative and thoughtful design. The gifted young scientist, who was an invited guest of the Economic Club of Canada to meet with President Obama as a young leader delegate, is now working to bring his invention to market. His sensor has proven accurate 95 percent of the time and is more sensitive than current sensors. Erfan Nouraee said this sensor can increase optical signals' quality, prolong the life of the fiber optic cables and reduce their damaging byproducts, and he hopes that the results of his experiment will help connect rural and remote communities to high-speed internet.
