This year’s jurors Henry Moy, director of the Museum of Red River, Idabel Oklahoma; Gwen Pier executive director of the National Sculpture Society, New York City, and Joshua Rose, editor of the American and Western Art Collector Magazines, selected 113 from 545 artists from around the world who submitted 884 works of art. Birds in Art includes the work of nearly 20 master wildlife artists including Robert Bateman, Carl Brenders, Tony Angell¸ Walter Matia and this year’s Master Artist John Busby from Scotland. Ken will travel to Wausau to the Birds in Art exhibition and the weekend events including: a private and public museum reception, meals with museum sponsors and art enthusiasts and the artist retreat held at Point O’ Pines, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Family compound in Hazlehurst, Wisconsin. An elite number of works in the Birds in Art exhibition will go on museum tour in 2011 to the Muskegon Museum of Art in Muskegon, Michigan; the Museum of the Red River in Idabel, Oklahoma; the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona; and the Wildling Art Museum in Los Olivos, California. “Observing Grace” represents Ken’s interpretation of the curlew as it arrives in the spring to the pastures of Idaho for a short stay. This sculpture reflects on Ken’s years of outdoor observations and over a month of almost daily viewing which brought this sculpture to fruition. The challenge was to capture the bird’s light and graceful manner in the heavy medium of bronze.
