June 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Phones that come built with a pico projector have only been around for a short time, so here comes the NCBC 888 which hopes to capitalize on the interest that these phones generate.  So is this phone a one trick pony?

If I was given the NCBC 888 phone, and it didn't come with the pico projector, I would quite likely dismiss it as a stock standard, dime a dozen phone that doesn't offer anything that 1000 other phones don't already have.  Lucky for a potential customer them, the NCBC 888 does come with one integrated, and to be honest quite well. Now if it just looked a little more sexy rather than the boxy design we have.

So here are the NCBC 888’s basic specifications.

The pico projector displays at 640x480, is 2 LUX, but must be manually focused.
The phone comes with unlocked access to any GSM quad band network worldwide.
Two SIM cards can be used simultaneously with dual standby as well.
It is constructed from Polycarbonate plastic in the front, with the back panel being faux leather.
It is built with a 2.4 inch TFT screen with a display resolution of 240x320.
The total weight of the phone is 130gms.
Total phone measurements are Length-117 Width-49 Height-17 mm.
Internet is accessible by GPRS and WAP 2.0.
All functions are done wither using touchscreen or keypad control.
Typically, the battery life for standard use will average about 40 to 60 hours, but in projector mode that will be reduced to 3~5 hours.
More games or programs are available by downloading and installing java apps to the java platform.
The phones media options are a MP3/ MP4 player, a camera/camcorder combo, an eBook reader, an analog TV, and a FM radio.

The main pros and cons of the NCBC 888 include:

Pros
Having both good definition and  brightness, the pico projector really works well.
The NCBC 888 is actually the first quad band projector phone ever built, meaning can be bought by anyone worldwide.
At under 200 dollars 172.25 actually), it is about the cheapest projector that I have ever seen on a phone.
You definitely will be one of the few people you know who has a projector phone if you have this one.

Cons
Three words:  It’s pretty ugly.
Navigating through the phone’s menu is a pain when you have the projector mode on, as you have to hold the phone sideways to get a normal view.
Getting to the projector mode should be a one button affair, but you have to go to a submenu to get to it… inconvenient.

If you don’t pay attention to the admittedly noticeable flaws, the NCBC 888 really does work well as a phone with a pico projector and has a price that is about as low as you are going to see any time soon.

Price. US$172.25
