XYH001 Phone Designed For The Elderly – Pros, Cons, Specs + Quick Review

If simple is what is needed to make a good phone for the elderly, then the XHY001 fits that description quite well.  In fact, this phone gets buy without flash whatsoever.  What this phone brings instead are large buttons with large text printed on, simple menus, SOS functions and alarms, and bright backlite screens.  In terms of looks, it is square and squat, but its core and basic functions are where its at with this phone.

Specifications for the XYH001 include:

It is a stock standard bar style phone, but includes very large buttons/ keypad with very large characters printed on.
Typing, calling, and other input methods are done completely using the keypad, and there is no touchscreen ability.
It is built with a large red button on the back which is used for SOS functions.
The phone’s weight is 55 grams.
The phone’s measurements are L103xW49xH15 (length x width x height).
It’s screen size measures only 1.8 inches and can only display in black and white, however the characters shown are very large and a bright orange backlight is always on.
It is unlocked on all 4 GSM bands used worldwide.
It comes with only 1 SIM card port .
It is made out of CE standard PCP plastic for the outer casing.
Users are able to insert a standard 2.5mm earphone into a earphone jack built into the case.

Cons
When held in your hands, it feels a bit plasticy and flimsy.
The lack of features will probably appeal to older people with very little experience with phones, but for those with more, they probably will find this phone very boring.
Having to press the SOS button for 3 seconds is good to prevent accidentally triggering the alarms, but in true emergencies this might be too long.

At under 50 dollars in price, having a XYH001 for a phone for the elderly people in your life is a cheap way to give them a simple way to keep in touch with you, and for both of you to have  a little peace of mind.  For anyone else looking for a phone that has more features however, this probably won’t do.
