July 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Shanzhai phones are better known in the west as clones of more popular branded phones.  This is exactly the track that the Mini E72 has taken, taking Nokia’s E72 design, and changing it around to stand out of the crowd.  Besides its design, does it offer much to anyone that might want to purchase?

Comparing a real Nokia E72 with the Mini E72, a user should indeed notice that this phone is significantly smaller than its forbearer.  The well thought out design of the Nokia model (comfortable shape and nice QWERTY keyboard layout) are still there though despite its size.  Compared to the original though, this Mini E72 differs greatly in its operating system and capabilities (or lack of them).  So basically this phone sacrifices some of the functionality, and in return offers a much lower price and familiar design modified to tempt people who love mini phones.

These are a few of the Mini E72’s specs.

CE standard PCP plastic has been used in the phone’s construction.
The phone comes with QWERTY input with raised keys for easy tactile touching, but lacks a touchscreen.
Shortcut keys as well as the QWERTY keys are used to navigate the phone’s menus and options.
The total weight is a light 80 grams.
Measurements for the phone are (LxWxH) 98x51x10mm.
The screen is 2.2 inches, is constructed from TFT,  and has a display resolution of 240x320.
Dual SIM ports (meaning 2 SIMs can be inserted simultaneously)  with dual standby are built into the phone.
A non standard earphone jack is built in meaning that users will have to use the earphone that comes with the phone or order a new one.
It is carrier unlocked on all 4 GSM bands in use worldwide.
It can only access the internet using WAP 2.0 or GRPS.
The battery life when the phone is on standby will last more than 60 hours .
Abilities the phone has include PDA tools (to do list, calendar, ect), installable java applets, a FM radio as well as an analog TV player, a MP3 and MP4 player, and a digital camcorder and camera.

The biggest pros and cons of the Mini E72 include:

Pros
Despite the size of the phone, the QWERTY keyboard is easy and fast to use.
The 1.3MP camera may seem a bit underpowered, but was able to take very decent pictures.
At less than 70 dollars, the price when compared to the original E72 is much much cheaper, while still giving you many of the design features and not skimping on quality in its build .

Cons
Compared to the original E72, the Mini E72 is lacking in its user interface, its internet connection, and in overall swankiness of being a Nokia.
Lacking a standard 3.5mm earphone jack is a great annoyance.

If you don’t mind losing some functionality, the Mini E72 is a nice alternative for someone who can’t afford a real Nokia but likes the look and feel of them.

Price.  $69.97
