July 9, 2010 - PRLog -- The E series of phones from China have recently been almost entirely slider phones which reveal a full QWERTY keyboard underneath.  The makers of this series choose the E1000 to be their first model to have this feature.  Let’s take a look to see if being the first in the series is as a good phone in its own right.

The E1000, being the originator of the E series of QWERTY slideout phones, brought with it many of the traits that have featured since.  Some of the features most featured are its easy to slide out QWERTY keypad hiding under the screen, the solid internet ability, being one of the first phones from China allowing screen orientation to landscape or widescreen based on orientation, and having many built in apps.  Looking good at the same time also is something that the E1000 tries hard to accomplish (owing a bit of this to its copying a Nokia design to a degree).  Owing to its success as a quite solid phone, it also allowed the development of more phones in the series (the E2000 and the E3000).

Here are a few of the E1000’s specs.

The phone is constructed from high quality PCP with CE qualifications.
When needed, a QWERTY keyboard that is nestled under the screen can easily be slid out, and when not it can be set back just as fast.
A sensor in the phone automatically detects if the QWERTY keyboard is slid out or not, and will adjust the screen for best viewing (widescreen when the board is out, and landscape when it is in).
A touchscreen is used for navigating the phone when in landscape mode, and in widescreen mode either the keyboard or touchscreen can be used.
The phone’s weight is a hefty 150 grams.
Measurements for the phone are (LxWxH) 112x57x16mm.
The screen is a largish 3.2 inches and has a display resolution of 320x480.
Two SIM ports set to dual standby are built into the phone.
Only a non standard proprietary earphone can be inserted into the phone’s earphone jack.
The phone comes with GSM quad band reception, is unlocked from any phone carrier, and can be used almost anywhere in the world.
Using Wi-Fi, EDGE 2.5G, GPRS or WAP 2.0 are the ways this phone can access the internet.
Battery life with standard use and wifi off should last a user up to 70 hours.
Along with more standard features such as a TV player and FM radio, a camera and camcorder, a java platform for adding more applets, and a MP3/ MP4 player, it also comes with a RSS reader via snaptu, two internet browsers (UCWEB and Opera Mini). an email client, a word doc and PDF reader, and access to Google maps.

People that get to use the E1000 will probably notice these pros and cons:

Pros
Some very big pluses are that the QWERTY keyboard is both easy to slip in and out, it is very easy to use with any program on the phone, and that the screen will auto orient depending on whether you have the keyboard in our out.
Users will find the preinstalled apps to be both useful, and pretty cool.
At 1.9MP, people may assume that the camera is not so good, but with care you can come out with some very excellent quality pictures.
EDGE access to the internet is solid and stable, but Wi-Fi is actually quite speedy.

Cons
This phone is very beefy and large, weighing in at 150 grams (which feels even heavier than that.
The plastic, though of good quality, is all over the phone, and gives it a certain cheap feeling.
When on the internet, you can not switch from landscape to widescreen view (or visa versa) when pulling out the keyboard (which means once you start, your are stuck).

As the originator for the E series, the E1000 really does have a lot going for it.  If you like phones from China, there are not many that are much better.

Price.  $130.19
