Empower Young Girls on Giving Tuesday

Nov. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Reading Hamlets has joined #GivingTuesday to celebrate the generosity, humanity and resilience of Americans. Giving Tuesday (#GivingTuesday), a movement that aims to take back the holiday season by promoting charitable giving. The second annual Giving Tuesday will take place December 3, 2013, the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which both promote holiday spending.

Giving Tuesday connects individuals, organizations, families and corporations that together embody the power of personal and corporate philanthropy, reminding people that the holidays are the season of giving. Reading Hamlets brings a focus on Literacy as it joins thousands of other organizations participating this year.

Last year, the inaugural Giving Tuesday drew donations to about 2,600 nonprofits. According to The Huffington Post, the day of giving spurred a 53-percent jump in charitable giving, resulting in $10 million in donations. Through increased promotion of the upcoming event, Giving Tuesday looks to increase not only the impact, but the level of giving that each nonprofit receives.

A donation to the Reading Hamlets directly benefits kids & teens who need books & libraries in rural communities. Donations also support the implementation of our girls self esteem & confidence program for under-served and never-served communities in Nigeria.

“The idea is very clear. December 3rd is a day to come together and give something more than usual,” says Christina Ude, Reading Hamlets executive director. “Whether that is a charitable donation or giving your resources and time, we hope    everyone will get involved with this new tradition of generosity.”
