Follow on Google News | Family Adventure in Sri Lanka: 18 days from £4296 (£2995 per child)By: Bamboo Travel The holiday begins with a couple of nights to acclimatise, staying in a converted colonial mansion in the middle of a peaceful coconut estate, before heading to a nature resort in the heart of the cultural triangle, near to Sigiriya. Whilst in Sigiriya, there will be a chance to climb the famous rock, explore the ancient city of Polonnaruwa on bicycles (the most popular form of transport in Asia!) and visit the cave temples at Dambulla. The caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. Major attractions are spread over five caves, which contain statues and paintings, which are related to Gautama Buddha and his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings and four statues of gods and goddesses. There will also be the opportunity of having a private jeep safari in one of the local national parks, where you are highly likely to see wild elephants. Continue into the hills to the peaceful village of Ella, a great spot for trekking, biking, and other outdoor activities and then on to the Gal Oya National Park, teeming with wildlife and less visited than many of the more famous parks in the south. From there it is an easy drive to the east coast, for a four-night stay relaxing in the luxurious Uga Bay Resort on Passkikudah Beach. If required, the resort can arrange activities, including watersports, to keep the kids occupied! The family adventure concludes with a couple of nights in Colombo and a tour of the city by vintage jeep. The holiday costs from £4295 per adult, and £2,995 per child, based on a shared family room. This includes international flights, all transportation, 16 nights' B&B in interesting family-friendly hotels (plus two lunches and seven evening meals), tours with a private guide, and Jeep safaris in Minneriya National Park.
