The youth were allowed complete creative freedom on their projects with only one requirement- “We’re very proud of the work that was showcased in this screening,” said Laura Guichard, the Digital Dove Supervisor. “I think it really shows that there is a lot of burgeoning talent here at CHC.” This was the second screening for the shorts. The first was a private screening at the HBO offices in Los Angeles. Digital Dove began in 2004 as a one-time HBO sponsored filmmaking workshop for young people interested in the film industry. The outpouring of remarkable, unique stories coupled with the incredible enthusiasm of CHC’s youth led HBO and its parent company, Time Warner, to provide a seed grant for the creation of an on-site video-arts program. Digital Dove now offers year-round classes in video arts and media advocacy, employment training and sponsorship. Since its inception, more than 350 youth have participated in the program resulting in screenings at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and HBO’s west coast offices. Graduates have also gone on to train in vocational programs, obtain film degrees, and find full-time employment in the film industry.
