As part of the event, participants were given a tour of the campus and roundtable discussion groups were held with CHC youth who have experienced homelessness. Afterwards, each sleeper was given a cardboard box and sleeping bag for their night sleeping on the pavement. The event concluded at 7:00am the next day with a group reflection. “There are literally thousands of homeless kids in California who need help right now,” said Bedrossian. “They are often victims of violence, abuse, or broken families or in many cases, have turned eighteen and aged out of foster care with no place to go. The money and awareness raised during this sleep out will send a message that we believe in these youth and their dreams for a better life.“ “This event doesn’t just raise much need money,” said Bedrossian. “It is a show of solidarity with homeless youth everywhere. We want them to know that we care for them and want to help.” Covenant House California is a non-profit agency that saves the lives of at-risk and homeless youth.
